Lead Chef - SEMH/SEN School near Near Bristol - £20,665.00 - £21,760.96

Location: Pilning, Bristol

Salary: £20,665.00 - £21,760.96 (FTE £23,665.00 - £25,665.00)

Hours: 40 hours per week, Term time only

The main purpose of the role:

As Lead chef, your role will be to lead the kitchen staff at the School to ensure the prompt and efficient preparation and service of all meals within budget and to the required standards, adhering to any specific dietary requirements of the children/young adults.

Key duties:

  • Plan menus, within budget and ensuring that dietary requirements and preferences, where appropriate, are taken into account

  • Lead staff to prepare, cook and serve meals/snacks at the required times and to the required standard adhering to menu plans, recipes, ingredients and portion control

  • Work strategically with the Business Manager to ensure best practice whilst considering the future for the catering and training within the Bristol area

  • Ensure that Statutory Regulations pertaining to the safe and hygienic operation of the kitchen and ancillary areas are adhered to across sites

  • Lead the accountancy, documentation and administration procedures for kitchen activities

  • Create rota’s that are cost efficient whilst considering the needs of your staff

  • Organise and prepare any special functions which may sometimes be outside normal working hours

Duties will vary, you must expect to diversify and lend a hand wherever is required.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of managing a catering environment with the potential for multiple and complex dietary requirements

  • Experience of planning and preparing menus to ensure balanced, healthy eating and variety

  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation (including COSHH regulations, manual handling and food hygiene procedures) and requirements in relation to food preparation

  • Experienced in carrying regular equipment/maintenance check and recording as and when required

  • Possess good working knowledge of kitchen equipment and cleaning schedules

  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks and work flexibly as appropriate

  • Must be available to work over the Christmas and New Year period


  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certified

  • Good standards of literacy, numeracy, written and verbal communication
