Outdoor Education Instructor - Shrewsbury Special Needs Schools - £10 -£15 per hour

Post Title: Outdoor Instructor - Special Needs Schools Place of Work: near Shrewsbury Reporting to: Head of School Temp Contract over the summer months to start as soon as possible.

You must have a current enhanced DBS

This special needs school is looking to recruit an activity instructor for the 2022 season - If you're a qualified instructor looking for a flexible, rewarding role working in the outdoors, this is the one for you!

Job Purpose: To deliver high quality activities, focusing on the school's values, to a wide range of client of all ages and any other duties arising.

Responsibilities of Appointment:

Outdoor Instructors shall be responsible for session delivery This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Putting safety first

  • Contributing to the planning, preparation and delivery of high-quality activities and/or training in line with safety management procedures and best practice. Working with the teaching team at the school to deliver these activities.

  • Delivery of activities for which you hold the appropriate qualifications, or for which you have been in-house assessed, and assisting alongside staff of a relevant level of qualification or experience

  • Promoting and enabling social development opportunities

  • Be 'At Your Peak’ delivering a high level of customer service each day

  • Active maintenance of equipment and facilities to ensure the ongoing safety of clients and staff

  • Any other reasonable duties commensurate with your role and level of remuneration, which may from time to time be required by the business

Candidate requirements:

  • Outdoor First Aid Qualification (min 16 hour)

  • Experience in proficiently delivering of outdoor activities

  • A passion for delivering outdoor adventure and education

  • High level of customer service

  • Flexible approach to working hours and willing to work at other centres if required.


  • Personal supporting knowledge of a broad range of outdoor and adventurous activities - experience of working with special needs young people

  • Continuing personal participation in outdoor and adventurous activities

  • Experience of youth work or working with emotional, learning and behavioural difficulties

  • Proven ability to manage challenging situations and leadership and influencing skills

  • Full UK driving licence

Pay & Remuneration The role pays £12 - £15 per hour

Working Hours Due to the variation of our activities and changing customer requirements our working day is of a flexible nature. Working days are normally approximately 8 hours and may include weekend and bank holiday working as agreed with the school.


Successful applicants will require an enhanced DBS check with child and adult barred checklists included - if you do not have one, this can be instigated for you.

Job Type: Fixed term contract during the summer months.
